have a faction rank that the leader of the faction can use one /kit to give him/her all the supplies to build thier faction base
seems like a good idea but i know for a fact that a leader may abuse their power
we need a way to make sure that does not happen

All they're going to benifit from "Abusing" /kit is having a giant base, which they might need if they have a particularly large faction.

However I do think /kit should be limited to the main faction base, and materials for outposts and such should have to be gathered.

One thing I would like to bring up is how often a player can give themselves a kit? 1 hour, 1 day?

Items that are free should they be give to the the play by /giveme command or be in the kit?

I don't know how it works, but on whatever one N4V and KnightNathan joined as soon as you spawned in the world you automatically had some basic items in your inventory. If you joined a faction the faction leader would tell an admin or mod and the faction would be given some more (basic) materials.

I'd suggest something similar. Why not, as the server gets larger, the starting kit gets larger over time as well. You only get it once when you start, but as things around the server pick up and it gets harder for a noob to the server to stay alive, the amount of starting supplies go up. And they only get it once.

OK the idea is. There will be a basic kit that will be available every 24 hours to all players. The give me command will be open to basic building blocks only.

Kit - not final

Iron sword
Iron pick
Iron axe
5 bread

Basic blocks - not final
Dirt
Cobble

Discus  :D
Thanks TheKhemist

I think 32 or 64 torches need adding to the Kit

and as for Basic Blocks I think Sand, Sandstone, Gravel and all 4 types of log need adding.

See, that just sounds like too much though. To me, anyway. Sand and dirt are ridiculously easy to gather. All 4 types of logs seems excessive. Maybe one of each kind of sapling, sure. And torches... I could go either way on torches.
If it were me deciding I'd do the following:
Kit:
1 iron block (enough ingots for sword, pick, shovel, and axe, or can use for other things)
5 bread
32 coal
1 of each sapling (Oak, Birch, Pine, Jungle)

Basic blocks:
Sandstone, gravel, cobble

This way people can use the resources how they want. If they want to make torches with the coal, they can. Or they can use it to cook stuff. They can grow their own trees and start a forest or whatever.
Get me?

Sounds good, but I'd drop the axe (why do they never give it weapon properties?!), add 32 torches, and maybe even make the tools stone level. If tools were stone, maybe have 4 hour time interval between /kit uses. Previous experience of factions has given me the idea of having the war 'on' or 'off', otherwise it'll just descend into players coming on, griefing offline players, leaving, and then the opposition doing the same. Maybe have a 'votewar' setting where opposing factions both have to vote for hostile actions to be possible.

it could be just vanilla with us all making factions with no names except 'wid's faction' or snug's faction' or whatever
but basically the kit should be
stone pick,sword and 16 torches,4 bread, and 32 cobble.

That stops large factions invading whimpy small factions. Just need to make sure the defender has 75% of attackers numbers or something? The chat should declare a war is on. (This is a pluggin level discussion, doubt Khem can edit this far without recoding the pluggin)
